Universal Tower Defense Z Build Guide
Name the unit you want to carry your account. This build guide fills the other five slots around it, one per build pillar, from roster data with a source behind every field.
Build Planner
0 / 6Name one carry. We fill the other five slots around it (Synchro, economy, support and coverage) from sourced roster data.
Next: rank which of these six to evolve first once you have a build you like.
This Universal Tower Defense Z build guide is a planner, not a list. You pick one carry; it assembles the other five slots around it using five build pillars. A Synchro partner, but only where one of the 7 documented pairings names it. An economy unit, drawn from the 2 units that carry the Farm role, because upgrades have to be paid for. A support, from the 22 sourced supports, to multiply the carry rather than add flat damage. And two coverage units chosen to balance Ground and Hill placement and reach elements the build does not yet cover. It never prints a DPS number, because no source publishes a stat table for this roster, and where a pillar cannot be filled honestly it tells you so instead of inventing a unit.
How the planner picks your other five units
One carry in, five sourced slots out, and a stated gap wherever it cannot fill one honestly.
Search for a build optimizer for this game and most results are a prose article with a screenshot. Nothing runs. This planner clears a low bar on purpose: it has to actually compute a build, and every unit it puts in front of you has to trace back to sourced data. So it starts from the one thing only you can supply, the carry you want to build around, and works outward.
It checks the carry against the documented Synchro pairs first, because a sourced pairing is free damage that fires on its own. Most carries have none, and when yours does not, the planner says so and hands that slot to coverage rather than inventing a partner. Then it slots one economy unit and one support, both from stated roles. The final two slots are filled to fix whatever the build is still missing: a placement it cannot hold, or an element nothing else reaches. If you mark the units you own, every slot is flagged as either yours or a pull target, so the plan doubles as a short shopping list.
The five pillars of a Universal Tower Defense Z build
Carry, Synchro, economy, support, coverage. Each slot answers a different question.
A team of six is not six carries. It is one carry and five slots that each do a job the carry cannot do for itself. Naming those jobs is most of what a build guide is for, because the mistake new players make is not picking a weak carry, it is fielding six damage units and wondering why they stall.
- Carry. The unit you commit to and level first. Most of your damage comes from here, so the other five exist to keep it alive and paid for.
- Synchro partner. A second unit that forms a documented pair with your carry, firing a joint attack for free. Only where a source names the pair, which today is a short list.
- Economy. A Farm-role unit that generates income so you can afford the upgrades your carry needs mid-wave.
- Support. A buffer that multiplies what your carry already does, worth more than a sixth damage unit that adds a flat amount on top.
- Coverage, twice. Two units chosen to balance placement and elements, so a wave your carry cannot chip meets something that can.
Why your carry does the heavy lifting
Pick it first, invest in it first, and read the rest of the build as its life support.
The carry is the one unit worth pouring levels and shards into early, because in practice one damage unit clears most of a wave and the rest of the team enables it. That is why this planner asks for the carry up front instead of trying to guess it: which unit you can invest in is a fact about your account, not the game, and the tier list already tells you which units reward that investment.
What the planner will not do is rank carries for you with a damage score, because no source publishes base damage for these units and a made-up number gets budgeted around as though it were real. It reads tier instead, which is sourced, and leaves the final call with you. If two carries look equal on paper, the one you already own and have levelled wins, every time, over the one a list says is marginally stronger.
Economy and support, the two units that make a carry work
Both are scarce roles in the sourced roster, which is exactly why the planner slots them on purpose.
Economy is the slot most damage-led builds skip and then regret. Only 2 units in the entire sourced roster carry the Farm role, so it is not something a strong DPS unit quietly also does. A Farm unit generates the income that pays for upgrades, and a carry you cannot afford to upgrade mid-wave is a carry that stalls. Iron Billionaire (Genius) is the one most builds converge on, and the planner reaches for it before it reaches for a sixth attacker.
Support is scarce too: 22 units carry the role from a source we trust, out of 115. A support multiplies what the rest of your team already does rather than adding a flat amount, so it scales with your carry instead of competing with it. The role data behind both picks is coarse, taken from third-party tier lists, and a unit tagged DPS may well have a support component nobody has documented. The planner treats the roles as a prompt to think, not a verdict, which is why it shows its reason on every slot.
Ground vs Hill: placement is part of the build
A build that can only hold one kind of position leaves gaps the other would cover.
Units in this game are placed either on the track as Ground units or on raised Hill spots, and the two are not interchangeable. 49 units are tagged Ground DPS and 16 are Hill DPS, with a Hybrid group that reads as either. Ground units catch enemies early on the path; Hill units take the elevated positions for range and overlapping fire. A build that is all Ground has no answer for the spots a Hill unit would hold, and the reverse is just as true.
So the planner reads that role split when it fills the two coverage slots and lights the placement readout only when your build holds both a Ground and a Hill unit. It is a warning light, not a score to max out: two placements covered is enough, and chasing a perfect spread with units you have barely levelled will produce a weaker build than a focused one. When the readout is amber, it means the build can only sit in one kind of position, which is worth fixing before you chase anything else.
Where the build data comes from
Every field is either sourced or null. There is no third option.
- Tiers come from the post-Update-4.0 community tier lists, cross-checked against the pre-4.0 list where both cover a unit. They set the weight behind every pick the planner makes.
- Synchro pairs are listed only where a source names them. No inferred pairs, and no merged-unit names, because no source publishes them. Where your carry has no sourced partner, the planner says so.
- Roles and elements are null unless a source states them, which is why some units read Unknown. That is the accurate state of public knowledge, not an unfinished page.
- Stats we do not have, so we do not show. No DPS, no range, no deploy cost, and therefore no damage score attached to a build.
- We do not play this game. This site compiles and cross-checks what independent trackers publish, and names them: Pro Game Guides, Destructoid, Beebom, Try Hard Guides and Deltia's Gaming.
Not verified yet. The planner is only as good as the role data underneath it. Those roles come from third-party tier lists, they are coarse, and a published stat table would change this build guide more than any other feedback could. If you have built around a carry yourself and found a slot the planner gets wrong, that first-hand correction is worth more than any list.
