Z and X are the same game
Universal Tower Defense Z and Universal Tower Defense X are one Roblox experience, place ID 133410800847665. Update 4.0 renamed it on 9 July 2026. It is not a sequel, you did not miss a launch, and there is nothing separate to go and join.

Same game. Universal Tower Defense X became Universal Tower Defense Z in Update 4.0 on 9 July 2026. Place ID 133410800847665, universe 7488190691, group Universal Tower Defense [UTD]. Your save, your units and your redeem history are untouched. The three games people confuse it with are Tower Defense X by JOHN ROBLOX, Universal Tower Defence with the British spelling, and Ultimate Tower Defense. All three are unrelated. The place ID in the URL settles it in two seconds.
Z and X are one game
The single fact this page exists to deliver.
Universal Tower Defense Z is Universal Tower Defense X. Not a sequel to it, not a spin-off, not a separate experience by the same team. The Roblox place with ID 133410800847665 was called Universal Tower Defense X, and on 9 July 2026, Update 4.0 changed the letter on the end. Everything else about it stayed exactly where it was.
This trips people up in a way that a normal rename would not, because the game swapped one single-letter suffix for another single-letter suffix. If it had renamed to something like Universal Tower Defense: Ascension, everyone would immediately understand it was the same thing wearing a new coat. Going from X to Z reads like a version number. It reads like a sequel. It is not one.
The practical upshot: if you had Universal Tower Defense X favourited, that favourite already points at Z. If a friend tells you to install Z, you have it. If a video from June is titled X and a video from last week is titled Z, they are covering the same game, although the older one predates Update 4.0 and its tier list is stale for reasons that have nothing to do with the name.
The four games people confuse
Place ID is the only field that ends an argument. It leads the table.
| Game | Place ID | Creator | What it actually is |
|---|---|---|---|
| Universal Tower Defense Z (formerly X)This one | 133410800847665 | Universal Tower Defense [UTD] | This one. The rename happened in Update 4.0. Same place, same save file, same units. |
| Tower Defense X (TDX) | not verified | JOHN ROBLOX | A completely different game by a different creator. Shares the letter X and nothing else. Not a spin-off, not related. |
| Universal Tower Defence (British spelling) | 15775894939 | not verified | A different, much smaller experience. The only thing separating its name from ours is a c where we have an s. |
| Ultimate Tower Defense | 5902977746 | not verified | Different studio, different game. Ultimate, not Universal. One word apart in a search box. |
Not verified yet. We have not independently confirmed a place ID for Tower Defense X (TDX), and we have not confirmed the creator names behind Universal Tower Defence or Ultimate Tower Defense. What we can state is that all three are separate games from ours, because none of them is place 133410800847665. Rather than fill the table with numbers we cannot stand behind, those cells stay empty.
How to check in two seconds
Ignore the name. Read the number.
Names are unreliable here. Four games in this list have names that are one word or one letter apart, and Roblox search will happily show you all of them. The place ID cannot be confused with anything, so use it.
- Look at the URL of the game you are in or about to join. It reads like roblox.com/games/<place ID>/...
- If that number is 133410800847665, you are in Universal Tower Defense Z. That is the correct game, and it is the game this site covers.
- If it is 15775894939, you have landed in Universal Tower Defence, the British-spelling one. If it is 5902977746, you are in Ultimate Tower Defense. Neither is this game.
- Second check, if you cannot see the URL: open the group. It should read Universal Tower Defense [UTD]. A different group name means a different game.
A third tell, and the one that costs the least effort, is the roster. If you open the unit list and cannot find names like Moonless Sky, Human Spider or Iron Billionaire, you are not in this game. Our 115 unit pages double as a roster check for exactly this reason.
Why the confusion exists
A rename splits search demand, and the internet takes months to catch up.
Before Update 4.0, everything written about this game, every video title, every tier list, every Discord message and every guide, said X. Those pages did not vanish on 9 July 2026. They are still indexed, still ranking, and still using the old name. Meanwhile everyone who discovered the game after the update calls it Z, and writes about it that way.
So the demand for information about one game is now split across two names, and neither half is aware of the other. Somebody who searches for Universal Tower Defense X finds a stack of pre-4.0 content and concludes the game is dying, because nothing recent carries that name. Somebody who searches for Z finds thin, new content and concludes the game just launched. Both are looking at the same experience, which has neither died nor launched, and has simply been renamed.
Layer the lookalikes on top and it gets worse. TDX is a well-known Roblox tower defense game by JOHN ROBLOX, and it is genuinely unrelated to this one, but it shares a letter and a genre, so search engines and players cross-wire them constantly. Universal Tower Defence differs by a single character. Ultimate Tower Defense differs by a single word, and both words start with U. This is a naming collision unusually well designed to confuse everybody.
The honest consequence for you: be suspicious of dates rather than names. A guide from before 9 July 2026 is not wrong because it says X. It is wrong, if it is wrong, because Update 4.0 changed the meta, added Synchro, and reshuffled the tier list. Those are real reasons to distrust old content. The letter on the end of the title is not.
Did the rename cost you anything?
No, and here is why that follows from how Roblox works.
Nothing was lost. A Roblox place keeps its data against its place ID, not against its display name, so renaming a game is closer to changing the sign above a shop than to opening a new shop. The place ID never changed. That means your units, your progress, your currency and the record of which codes you have already redeemed all sit exactly where they were before Update 4.0.
This is also why old codes fail. Players notice that a code from a May video does not work, and reasonably conclude that the rename invalidated it. It did not. That code is dead because codes in this game expire quickly, and it would have died on the same day whether the game was called X, Z, or anything else. Our codes page lists what is actually live right now, checked in game.
The one thing the rename genuinely broke is the documentation. The old Universal Tower Defense X Trello board is discontinued, and every guide still linking it is sending you to a dead page. That is a real cost, it just is not one that touches your account.
